Hotels these days seem to compete with extravagant and Insta-worthy designs and hipster-esque amenities, so it’s nice to come across a property that brings the historic sense of a hotel, mixed with a modern approach, back into play. Catahoula Hotel is a place to lodge that prioritizes a sense of home into the experience of guests. It may sound old-fashioned, but for a traveler in New Orleans, it’s a breath of fresh air.

Catahoula Hotel sits in an 1845 creole townhouse in the Central Business District, a short six-minute walk from the French Quarter. As a historic property, you can feel the age and history in the brick-exposed walls and wooden furniture. Though the hotel doesn’t have the same kind of “on trend” vibe of some properties, it’s not to say that it isn’t stylish.

The beds are custom-built with Casper mattresses, perfect for a full rest after a raging time in the French Quarter.

The lobby’s front desk is made of reclaimed wood and accented by navy blue walls, artwork, and green plants. To the right of the lobby is the coffee shop and Piscobar, a bright and airy space with a Southern charm in the black and white tiled floors, wooden bar, and bistro-style seating. It’s here where guests can grab a coffee throughout the day or pisco-based cocktails at night. It also partners with local food trucks, chefs, and caterers for an ever-changing menu to satisfy a global palette.

When the humidity in New Orleans is at bay, guests will want to head outdoors, whether it’s the to the interior courtyard, complete with wooden tables and turquoise chairs on a black and white-tiled floor, or the rooftop bar. The rooftop patio has a beachy vibe with loungers, wooden elements, palm trees, turquoise chairs, and a bar menu of Gulf Coast craft beers, South American and Spanish wines, and mezcal and tequila selections.

There’s something cozy about the guest rooms at Catahoula Hotel, even though they’re minimal in design, focusing less on overwhelming décor and more on quality furniture and large French windows or balconies with views of downtown. The beds are custom-built with Casper mattresses, perfect for a full rest after a raging time in the French Quarter. Free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs allow you to unwind, while the rainfall shower helps you to reset.

Take it from someone who’s visited New Orleans. Stay steps away from the French Quarter at the Catahoula Hotel – in a place where sleep, care, good drinks, and relaxing spaces are prioritized – where you are prioritized. That’s what you deserve, and that’s what Catahoula Hotel provides.
