Coffee, rain, nature, music, art — what more could you want in Portland? Maybe a hotel that combines all of that in one. Okay, not the rain, but you know what we mean. We found a hotel that embodies all that is Portland. We found The Jupiter Hotel.

Across the river from downtown Portland in Lower East Burnisde, sits The Jupiter Hotel in a revitalized motor lodge, the likes of which overflows with outdoor greenery. The lobby is modern and chic, doubling as the Gallery, a spot where the bad ass talent of local artists is showcased.

A smoke outside on the modernist patio under the dark night sky, prepares us for more tunes and drinks

Whether you like art or not, you got to love the chalkboard doors of the rooms. Get your Picasso on, declare your love for your lady, or be bold and share your digits with the world. Inside the rooms, there’s more artistic nods with custom murals, cork wall installations, and larger-than-life posters of icons like John Lennon and Spiderman (because who doesn’t like both?). Free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs allow us to lay back and relax, while free coffee in the lobby gets us that caffeine kick we need to start the day.

The rooms are modern and practical – great for any traveler who appreciates art. However, if you like to indulge in the finer things, be aware that The Jupiter Hotel is opening Jupiter NEXT, a luxury property next door, in 2018.

The heavy wood element of the hotel’s restaurant Doug Fir makes us want to order a whiskey with our great meal. The restaurant provides live music shows throughout the week with a crowd that appreciates good tunes. A smoke outside on the modernist patio under the dark night sky, prepares us for more tunes and drinks, and back and forth we go until we stumble back to our rooms, which is mere steps away.

If the tunes aren’t a-rocking, we might make our way out into Lower East Burnside to a nearby dive, but let’s be real, Doug Fir is where it’s at in East Portland.

The Jupiter Hotel likes to say, “Not just a hotel in Portland… but, a Portland Hotel.” Stay here and you’ll get it… The soul of the city is imbued in every minute detail of this place.
